Kolkata, May 1 (IANS) Border Security Force personnel on Monday seized gold biscuits worth Rs 6.85 lakh and detained one person from West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, an official said.
Acting on a tip-off, the BSF troopers from North 24 Parganas district's Petrapole border outpost conducted searches at the border gate area and seized two gold biscuits weighing approximately 233.28 grams, Ajay Kumar of the BSF's South Bengal Frontier said.
"Shankar Mondal (55), a resident of Bongaon, was arrested for keeping the gold biscuits. The accused has been handed over to customs office in Petrapole along with the seized gold for further legal action," he added.
The BSF of the South Bengal Frontier has seized a total of 11.344 kg gold worth approximately Rs 3.24 crore and apprehended five gold smugglers so far in 2017.
