Shamkir (Azerbaijan), April 29 (IANS) Indian Grand Master Pentala Harikrishna played out a hard-fought draw against World No. 20 Radoslaw Wojtaszek in his seventh round encounter at the Shamkir Chess 2017 tournament here.
The game which went on for about four hours and lasted 56 moves, turned out to be a stalemate for both the players as they decided to share the spoils after trying all the tricks up their sleeves here on Friday night.
Earlier on Thursday evening, the World No. 14 Indian had to pull up his socks against higher-rated English Grand Master Michael Adams in his sixth round tie to settle for a draw.
"Adams repeated the variation which Kramnik played in the fourth round and that led to many interesting exchanges afterwards. I countered tactfully due to which the game proceeded to a draw," the Hyderabadi said.
With five draws and two losses in the tournament, Harikrishna is placed 10th with two and a half points on the leaderboard.
Harikrishna, the sole Indian Grand Master in the tournament will take on Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria who is currently placed second on the points table in his next round.
