The missed catch of Uthappa cost us the match: Samson

Kolkata, April 28 (IANS) Delhi Daredevils opener Sanju Samson on Friday lamented the dropped catch of Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) Robin Uthappa, saying the miss cost them the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 match.

Uthappa smashed a 33-ball 59 as KKR won easily by seven wickets to stay at the top of the points table and inch closer to the playoffs. Delhi were condemned to their fourth defeat in as many games and are now staring down the barrel.

Uthappa made the most of some comical fielding in the sixth over, when a leading edge off the in-form batsman's willow saw Samson and Amit Mishra converge in the region between short fine leg and square leg with none of them getting under the ball eventually. The Karnataka batsman was on nine at that time.

"Catches do count. Catches win matches and there was a dropped chance and he (Uthappa) made use of it. I think that cost us the match," said Samson, whose 60 off 38 balls went in vain as Delhi posted 160 after being asked to bat first.

"It's a busy crowd here lot of noise, so it's not easy to communicate when the ball goes up. It happens in a match but I think we need to move on. we have a match day after. We have to forget it and move on," the 22-year-old added.

Asked about him failing to build on starts, Samson said: "I think I am still learning. I am a 22-year-old and have a long career ahead. I need to finish games and need to play the whole 20 overs. Whenever you play 20 overs, the team has the best chances to win. I am trying for that."

Asked how does Delhi come back from here, the Kerala rookie said: "When you play a sport like cricket failure is more than success. We all as sportsmen know how to come back from failures."

"So I think we need to keep going as life. In life also we have failures. We all have doubts but we need a positive mindset. We need to challenge ourselves and move on positively."

Delhi are languishing at the bottom of the table after playing seven games with just four points in their kitty.
