Date to file service tax return extended to April 30

New Delhi, April 27 (IANS) In a relief to service tax payers, the government has extended the last date for filing return by five days to April 30, it was announced on Thursday.

"The CBEC (Central Board of Excise and Customs) hereby extends the date for submission of form ST-3 for the period from October 1 to March 31, 2017, from April 25 to April 30, 2017," the CBEC has said in an office order.

India's indirect taxes authority said the deadline for filing returns is being extended as the assessees faced "intermittent difficulties" in accessing the ACES (Automation of Central Excise and Service Tax) website on April 25, which constituted "circumstances of a special nature".

As per norms, while returns are filed half-yearly, the service tax collected by the assessee is required to be deposited with the government on a monthly or quarterly basis.
