Chennai, April 26 (IANS) The midnight arrest of AIADMK Deputy General Secretary T.T.V. Dinakaran by the Delhi Police will not affect the proposed unification talks between the two factions in the party, said a former AIADMK parliamentarian.
"The law has done its duty. Dinakaran attacked democracy by trying to bribe the Election Commission officials. He was sent out of the party by our leader former Chief Minister and party General Secretary J. Jayalalithaa," K.C.Palaniswamy, former parliamentarian told IANS.
On Tuesday night, the Delhi Police arrested Dinakaran over the charge of trying to bribe the poll officials through middleman Sukesh Chandrasekar who was arrested some days back.
The AIADMK party split into two soon after the death of Jayalalithaa in December 2016.
One faction is led by General Secretary V.K. Sasikala and the other by former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.
The Election Commission had frozen the party's 'two leaves' symbol and the party name when the two groups claimed the same.
The poll body is hearing the case as to which faction the 'two leaves' symbol should be allotted to.
Palaniswamy is one of the spokespersons of the Panneerselvam faction.
