Post-modern paintings and sculptures on displayMumbai, April 25 (IANS) An exhibition that kicked off here on Tuesday brings an exciting array of post-modern paintings and sculptures by six painters and two sculptors.

Organised by Chitri-O-Bhaskar-Gosthi, Kolkata-based artists' collaborative, the exhibition is being held at Jehangir Art Gallery here.

The works of Avinandan Barua, Biswanath Chanda, Dilip Paul, Jitendra Nath Roy, Kalyan Choudhury, Pulok Karmakar, Prithwis Sen and Rupak Goswami are on display. A significant number of these artists have developed themselves within the post-modern context.

This is evident in the style of their works, choices of themes and techniques. The artists have carved a niche of their own in response and in dialogue with changing times and aesthetic practises.

Goswami, whose main interest is to freely explore themes in oil canvas, said that his themes included classical dance, music, love, nature, Lord Ganesh and masks.

"The lighting sets the situation and the colour indicate moods. I tend to take a positive view of life in my work and this dictates my signature treatment of life and colour," Goswami said.

Karmakar said that his life has been shaped by Bengali culture and folk tradition.

"I am showcasing the aesthetic value of nature and love through its embodiments in the living form," Karmakar said.

Chitri-O-Bhaskar-Gosthi has regularly held exhibitions in Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai, among other major cities, Since 1987.

"This exhibition showcases works by painters along with two sculptors.
