‘Kirik Party’ Telugu remake to roll from June

Chennai, April 18 (IANS) Telugu remake of last year's Kannada blockbuster "Kirik Party", which will star Nikhil Siddartha, will roll from June, a source said.

Anil Sunkara's AK Entertainments is bankrolling the project.

"It's not going to be a frame-to-frame remake. Telugu industry hasn't had a true-blue campus drama since 'Happy Days', and the whole team including Nikhil felt it would be the right time to revisit the genre. This is going to be an adaptation of 'Kirik Party', with main focus on college and politics," a source from the film's unit told IANS.

Nikhil shot to fame with Sekhar Kammula's 2007 campus drama "Happy Days".

The script discussion is currently underway. The cast and crew are yet to be finalised.

"Well-known choreographer-filmmaker Raju Sundaram is most likely to helm the project. Director Chandoo Mondeti, who had worked with Nikhil in 'Karthikeya', has been roped in take care of additional screenplay and dialogues. The project will go to sets in June," the source said.

"Kirik Party", directed by Rishab Shetty, follows the lives of a few mischievous students at an Engineering college.

The film ended up as one of the biggest all-time grossers of the industry.
