Hiring up in March overall but declines in 5 metro cities: ReportNew Delhi, April 17 (IANS) Despite an overall increase in hiring activity, five of the eight metro cities saw a decrease in March 2017, said a report released on Monday.

According to the report, the index for Delhi/NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru saw a dip of 15 per cent, 12 per cent and 4 per cent, respectively, while Kolkata and Ahmedabad registered an increase of 10 per cent and 9 per cent respectively, as compared to the corresponding month last year.

Among other metro cities, Chennai saw 10 per cent dip in hiring activity while Pune saw no change as compared to the year-ago period.

But the Naukri JobSpeak index for the last month at 2,073 was five per cent up from year-ago month, indicating an upsurge in the overall hiring scenario.

BFSI (Banking, Financial Services Industry) gained the most during last month with a year-on-year (Y-o-Y) 26 per cent increase in hiring. Key industries like construction and BPO/ITeS saw a 9 per cent growth, while IT-software remained buoyant in March 2017.

"The index continues to move north with a 5 per cent Y-o-Y growth in March 2017. Good to see sectors like construction, engineering and BFSI showing significant growth. Though there could be some short-term volatility, looks like the markets will gain momentum in the next few quarters," Naukri.com's Chief Sales Officer V. Suresh said.

The maximum number of new jobs were created in the 13-16 years category of experience bucket.

Senior management hiring grew, with jobs for over 16 years of experience witnessing a growth of 9 per cent when compared with February 17, the report said.

Entry level hiring and junior management hiring (0-3 years and 4-7 years of experience) witnessed a growth of mere 5 per cent in both categories, the report added.
