New Delhi, April 14 (IANS) Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE) on Friday inked an MoU with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to set up a new centre to boost global innovations into thetransportation sector.
The Centre for Advanced Transportation Technology and Systems (CATTS) will accelerate the evaluation and adoption of new transportation technologies and explore market opportunities in India and Australia.
Indian Academy of Highway Engineers is the apex training institute set up to address the training needs of highway and bridge engineers in the country and functions under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The centre will also conduct research, development and training in the areas of transport system modelling and data for smart cities.
"This would be the world's first transportation centre involving two countries committed to seeing technological innovation for economic development through improved safety and reduced congestion," said an official statement.
However, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways did not disclose where the centre would come up.
