Rome, April 14 (IANS/AKI) Italian coastguard on Friday said they saved 2,074 migrants and recovered one corpse during 16 operations in the Mediterranean.
The migrant were travelling aboard inflatable rubber dinghies and wooden boats, the coastguard said.
Several charity ships also took part in the rescue operations, according to the coastguard.
Around 27,000 migrants attempted to reach Italy from Libya by boat this year till April 9 while 664 died on the perilous crossing, according to the International Organisation for Migration.
A further 2,100 migrants rescued last week have arrived in Italy, the IOM stated on Tuesday.
The rescued migrants included 500 Bangladeshis and around 50 Syrians, while the rest were mainly from sub-Saharan Africa, according to IOM.
