New Delhi, April 11 (IANS) The University Grants Commission (UGC) has written to universities across the country, asking them to ensure an "elaborate training programme" on Common Yoga Protocol for the 3rd International Day of Yoga to be celebrated on June 21.
In letters to vice chancellors of the universities, the UGC said greater and more active participation of the youth was essential for the Narendra Modi government's bid to "carry forward the momentum" created by the first two editions of the International Day of Yoga.
"The celebrations of International Day of Yoga would involve a very elaborate training programme on Common Yoga Protocol for Mass Yoga performance as well as discourses, lectures and talks by eminent Yoga experts," the UGC said in the letter published on Tuesday.
"Support of various reputed and eminent Yoga institutions may be taken for providing training to the trainers and other expert advice in celebrations of International Day of Yoga 2017," it said.
The UGC said the Ministry of AYUSH had in March written to government departments regarding celebration of the Yoga Day, asking them to ensure proper training for the events on the day, including Yoga fests, seminars, workshops, and musical and cultural programmes based on Yoga.
"Keeping in view the importance of Yoga, may I request your personal indulgence in ensuring the above activities in your esteemed university and affiliated colleges," UGC Secretary Jaspal S. Sandhu said in the letter to the VCs.
