Granada fires coach Alcaraz, hires Arsenal legend Tony AdamsGranada (Spain), April 10 (IANS) La Liga strugglers Granada FC on Monday fired coach Lucas Alcaraz following a 1-3 home defeat against Valencia a day earlier, and hired former Arsenal legend Tony Adams, who will try to salvage Granada from relegation.

The club in a statement said that its decision was made following the team's recent poor results, and thus, Granada had to part ways with Alcaraz and his staff, reports Efe.

Adams has been appointed as caretaker coach of Granada until the end of the season.

 

As a player, Adams played more than 500 matches at Arsenal, with which he won four league titles, as well as three FA Cups and two League Cups.

The former England international had an unsuccessful managerial spell with Portsmouth in 2008-09 and also led Wycombe Wanderers and Azerbaijani side Gabala.

The former Arsenal captain has taken on the role of sporting director at Granada recently, of which he said: "I'm here to put the Spanish structure in place, with players who will belong to Granada CF and who will fight for Granada."

After 31 La Liga weeks, Granada currently holds the next to last place on the table with 20 points gathered through four wins, eight draws and 19 defeats.
