Bengal woman arrested for trying to abduct toddler

Kolkata, April 7 (IANS) A woman was arrested on Friday for trying to abduct a toddler in West Bengal's Howrah district, police said.

"Mumtaz Begam was arrested after thorough interrogation for trying to abduct the two-and-a-half-year-old baby girl from Andul area on Friday morning," a police official said.

The accused tried to flee in a bus with the toddler, but the locals stopped her.

"Some locals suspected the woman to be a stranger to the kid as they heard the baby girl crying. On questioning, she initially claimed to be the aunt but failed to show any proof," the official added.
