Landmines recovered in Jharkhand

Ranchi, April 3 (IANS) Several landmines planted by the Maoist guerrillas in Jharkhand's Lohardagga district on Monday were recovered by the state police, officials said.

A search operation was launched, based on the information regarding the presence of Maoist guerrillas in Bondowar and Lawapani jungle of Lohardagga district, according to a police official.

The Maoist guerrillas managed to escape but the joint team of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered the landmines.

Six pressure-cooker bombs each weighing 3 kg, five claymore mines, each weighing 1 kg, 500 metres of wire length were also recovered, among other things.

The landmines were planted to detonate police vehicles, the police said.
