Competition to highlight role of community radioNew Delhi, April 3 (IANS) In a bid to highlight the importance of community radio services, a Commonwealth body has announced a special video competition among youth.

A joint initiative of Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) and Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, the competition is open to students in universities, colleges and institutions pursuing a degree in Media, Communication and/or Journalism. The video can be from three to five minutes and the last date of online submission is May 1.

This year's topic is "Community Radio for Sustainable Development" and seeks entries on how community radio services can be of use or has been used to further the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN. The best videos will be awarded at an event to be held here on May 17.

 

Entries can be in any language but must have English subtitles. There are eight cash prizes, with a top prize of Rs 50,000.

CEMCA was set up in 1994 by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) to promote the meaningful, relevant and appropriate use of media and technology to serve the educational and training needs of Commonwealth member-states of Asia. It has been working to promote the use of community radio in learning for sustainable development since 2006.
