The boats were spotted near the border outpost Donna Tel Mal by BSF troopers patrolling the riverine border belt along Sutlej river on the night of April 2-3.

The troopers challenged the people on the boats but they jumped into the river and swam towards Pakistani territory, the officials said. A search of the boats led to over 45 kg of fish.

Punjab shares a 553-km border with Pakistan.
