China bridge shifts 1.6 m after being hit by ship

Beijing, April 1 (IANS) A bridge shifted 1.6 meters after being hit by a cargo ship in China's Guangdong province on Saturday, local maritime safety authorities said.

"The Lianxi Bridge, built in 1992, was hit by the ship loaded with about 1,000 tonnes of goods around 9.50 a.m. in Zhuhai city," said deputy head of the city's maritime administration Wang Shiyun.

The vessel, which is 98.8 metres long and 15.6 metres wide, was registered in Wuhu, eastern China's Anhui Province.

No casualties have been reported and traffic control measures have been imposed on waters around the mishap site.
