Seven killed in Bengal road accident


Kolkata, March 26 (IANS) Seven persons were killed and two others seriously injured when their van collided head on with a truck in West Bengal's Burdwan district on Sunday, police said.

"Seven persons have been killed. Two others are battling for life at Durgapur sub-divisional hospital," an officer from Kaksa police station told IANS over phone.

The accident occurred at Dhobaru Jungle near Morgram on the Panagarh-Morgram state Highway.

While five persons died on the spot, two of the four injured admitted to hospital succumbed later in the day.

All the victims were travelling in the van, which was returning from a fair at Patharchapri in Birbhum district.

The truck driver fled after the incident, police said.
