Kolkata, March 25 (IANS) City football giants Mohun Bagan have extended a helping hand to club's long-serving member Sanjay Das by raising Rs one lakh as he struggled to meet the huge expenditure for the treatment of his ailing daughter.
Arushi Das, all of three years, was suffering from a low white blood cell count, a condition that decreases the circulation of disease-fighting cells in one's blood.
Coming from a humble background, Das was at his wit's end to meet her medical expenses and that is when the likes of Bagan goalkeeper Shilton Paul, Equatoguinean defender Eduardo Ferreira and the entire team came to the rescue, collectively shelling out Rs 1 lakh.
A low white blood cell count, leukopenia, in adults is generally defined as fewer than 3,500 white blood cells per microliter of blood, while in children, it varies with age.
This rare problem is more often than not caused by anaemia and infection during dialysis.
