‘Hunar Hubs’ to be set up for artisans from minorities: Naqvi

New Delhi, March 24 (IANS) Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Friday said that "Hunar Hubs" will be established in all the states to provide a market opportunity for master artisans from minority communities to preserve and propagate their heritage.

A data bank of artisans/craftsmen from minority communities was being prepared, he said, while
addressing the conference of Principal Secretaries/Secretaries-In charge of Minority Welfare in states and union territories to review progress of implementation of Multi-Sectoral Development Programme and other schemes of the Ministry.

He also said that the Ministry had launched a campaign for the development of art/skills of artisans to upgrade them as per modern demands.

"States should send proposals to the ministry regarding 'Hunar Hub'. The aim is to establish 'Hunar Hub' in at least two dozen states where 'HunarHaat' and other social-educational and skill development activities will take place," said Naqvi.

He also added that his ministry was establishing five world class educational institutions to provide better traditional as well as modern education to students belonging to minority communities.

These world class institutions will provide education in technical, medical, ayurveda, and unani fields.
