Minor quake jolts northeast India, parts of Bangladesh
Shillong, March 21 (IANS) A minor earthquake was recorded in India's northeastern states and parts of Bangladesh on Tuesday night, an official said.

However, there were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage to property.

The quake, measuring 3.9 magnitude on the Richter Scale, was felt at 9.10 p.m.

Its epicentre was located on the Bangladesh-India border, a seismologist at the Regional Seismological Centre, told IANS.

The earthquake was felt in some parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and adjoining areas of northeastern region.

Seven of the northeastern states -- Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur -- are considered by seismologists as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
