Ghaziabad, March 20 (IANS) The jewellers market in Ghaziabad remained closed on Monday to protest the "atrocities" committed by the Income Tax Department.
Several jewellers took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to District Magistrate Nidhi Kesarwani.
They also staged a protest outside Nidhi Jewellers in Navyug Market, demanding withdrawal of the police complaints which they said the income tax officials filed against them.
"Over a thousand shops across the city including Vaishali, Vasundhara, Indirapuram and Old City were shut," said Gaurav Garg, General Secretary of the jewellers association.
The Income Tax Department reportedly carried out a survey on firms which declared assets under the Volunteer Disclosure Scheme before December 31.
