Mangaluru, March 17 (IANS) The National president of the Federation of Indian Rationalists Association (FIRA) has alleged that an attempt was made to kill him.
In a police complaint here, Prof Narendra Nayak has stated that an attempt was made to kill him on Thursday morning and that he was being continuously followed by some fringe groups. Nayak has also expressed his fears that he might be their next target.
According to the complaint, two motorcycle-borne youth had stalked him on Thursday morning and gave a false alarm stating that he had a flat tyre. Nayak, however, sensed something wrong and did not stop his vehicle.
"I had a hunch that there was a plan to bump me off for taking lead role in putting the accused behind bards for the murder of Vinayak Baliga, an RTI activist. Me and a few other friends of late Vinayaka Baliga were also scheduled to hold a meeting on 21 March (Tuesday) to mark the anniversary of the Baliga murder case. This was why they wanted me out of their way," he told The New Indian Express.
The local police has said that Nayak's security has now been doubled and he will be under gunman protection.
