‘Celebration of different voice textures a positive change’

Mumbai, March 17 (IANS) Singer Asees Kaur, who sang "Bol na" for "Kapoor & Sons", says acceptance of various voice textures is a positive change in playback singing as that is helping new talent to enter the world of Bollywood music.

Known for her unusual soothing voice, Asees told IANS: "I think celebration of different voice textures is a positive change in Bollywood. Listeners are accepting and showing interest to hear new voices. That opens the door for many new talents like me."

The singer, who started learning music at a very tender age, took part in talent hunt musical reality TV shows like "Indian Idol" and "Awaaz Punjab Di".

She admits that after her first hit song "Bol na", she was getting only soothing romantic songs. And she makes no bones about saying that it is a challenge to break stereotypes.

"My different voice is my originality, and that make me stand out from the rest. Therefore, I believe all the singers who have an unusual voice texture should explore that and celebrate the talent. This year, I have sung some party numbers as well. I hope people will get to hear some different songs from me, apart from soulful songs."

The singer will be performing at the Bollywood Music Project, powered by Hungama, in Delhi on March 25.
