Kolkata, March 10 (IANS) A six-member team set up to probe the alleged medical negligence in treatment of a patient at the Apollo Hospital submitted its report to the state government on Friday.
"Gross medical negligence" has come to light during the investigation into the death of Sanjoy Roy on February 23, highly-placed sources associated with the matter said.
The team was constituted by the West Bengal Health Department after the hospital was embroiled in a controversy over the death of 30-year-old Roy, a road accident victim.
Five officials, including four doctors of the hospital, were summoned on Friday for further questioning.
Roy, a resident of Dankuni in Hooghly district who was critically injured in a road accident, died at the state-run SSKM Hospital where he was shifted from Apollo.
Roy's relatives and friends accused Apollo of "inadequate treatment" even while raising a huge bill and refusing to allow him to be shifted to SSKM unless they paid up the full amount.
They alleged that the hospital delayed his discharge and relented only after they deposited fixed deposit certificates.
