New Delhi, March 10 (IANS) The government is creating a dynamic buffer of up to two million tonnes of pulses, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution C.R. Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Around 14.25 lakh tonnes of pulses were procured and contracted for imports for the buffer as on March 6, he informed the house.
According to the minister, during 2015-16, around 5.88 million tonnes pulses were imported.
The minister also said that the measures taken by the government to improve the domestic availability were zero import duty on pulses, export ban on pulses with certain exemptions, regular enhancement of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for pulses, and implementation on National Food Security Mission (NFSM).
