National Archives to celebrate 127th Foundation Day
New Delhi, March 8 (IANS) An exhibition on revolutionary patriots will be held by the National Archives of India to celebrate its 127th Foundation Day on March 11, the Union Culture Ministry said on Wednesday.

The exhibition titled 'Revolutionary Patriots (1905-1947)' will put on display original documents and literature that was then proscribed at the National Archives premises here.

"This exhibition has two-fold objective: To sensitise the younger generation to the sacrifices made by the revolutionaries in their fight for Independence from the imperial rule; and to inculcate a sense of archival awareness among the public," said ministry.

The cultural event will be held in the evening on that day, where Vindhyasharan Shukla will present patriotic poems in folk Alha format.

The National Archives of India was established on March 11, 1891, in then Calcutta (Kolkatta) as the Imperial Record Department with Professor G.W. Forrest as its first officer-in-charge.

Following the transfer of the imperial capital from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911, the present building of the National Archives of India designed by Edwin Lutyens was constructed in 1926.
