New Delhi, March 5 (IANS) Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain on Sunday dedicated to the residents of a locality in the national capital a 66/11 kV grid sub-station to be commissioned soon, according to BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL), one of the three electricity distribution companies (discoms) in the city.
"On the verge of being completed, this grid will further improve the power supply to fast developing South Delhi areas of Molar Bandh, Mithapur, Saurabh Vihar, Jaitpur and Khadda Colony, and benefit a population of around 1.5 lakh," BSES said in a release here.
The grid, being constructed at a cost of around Rs 50 crore, will make BRPL the "first utility in India to have smart 66 kV power cables with built-in fiber optic connectivity," it said.
"Besides being unmanned, this state-of-the-art grid is the first Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) sub-station being constructed by BRPL," it added.
Designed to cater to Delhi's power demand that is growing annually at around 4-5 per cent, the grid sub-station will be commissioned by May 2017, BRPL Chief Executive Amal Sinha said on the occasion.
