Postgraduate seats in Himachal medical colleges increased


Shimla, March 4 (IANS) The Union Health Ministry has granted permission to increase 39 postgraduate seats in two state-run medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh, an official said on Saturday.

Thirty one additional seats have been created in the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla, while eight seats have been added in the Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Tanda town, a government spokesperson told IANS.

He said the extra seats would be filled from this session.

State Health Minister Kaul Singh informed the assembly on Friday that efforts were on to start the first batch of MBBS with 100 seats in the ESI Medical College near Mandi town.

Himachal Pradesh is facing an acute shortage of doctors, especially specialists, particularly in tribal areas.
