Imphal, March 4 (IANS) Over 80 per cent voting was recorded in the first phase of polling in Manipur in 38 constituencies spread across six districts in the hill state.
Officials said the final figure would go higher as this was only the preliminary report at 3 p.m. when polling officially ended.
There was no major law and order problem during the balloting at 1,643 polling stations.
Voting was held across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Phezerol districts.
There are 5,44,050 male and 5,75,220 female voters for the first phase polling.
There were 168 candidates in the fray in the first pase.
The second and final phase of polling will be held on March 8.
