New Delhi, March 1 (IANS) A sessions court here has awarded life imprisonment till death to three men for beheading a police official and a witness, describing the crime as "gruesome and brutal".
Joginder, 42, Rajinder, 55, and Vinod Jatav, 34, were awarded life imprisonment for the remainder of their natural lives for murder and criminal conspiracy.
Additional District and Sessions Judge V.K. Bansal also slapped a fine of Rs 80,000 each on Joginder and Vinod and Rs 83,000 on Rajinder, directing that Rs one lakh of the money collected will be paid to the victims' families.
The convicts had murdered Delhi Police Sub-Inspector Satish Kumar and witness Vijay Kumar Swamy on March 5, 2004. They then decapitated the bodies and burnt the heads.
The decapitated bodies were found dumped at Bahadurgarh in Haryana and near a factory on the Rohtak Road here on the day after the crime.
During the trial, the accused claimed they were falsely implicated.
