Violence can’t be justified in any context: Swara Bhaskar

Mumbai, Feb 28 (IANS) Actress Swara Bhaskar on Tuesday said violence can't be justified in any context, not even nationalism, days after the RSS-affiliated ABVP clashed with Left-backed AISA in Ramjas College of Delhi University on February 22.

"As a student of Jawaharlal University, I feel that violence can't be justified in any context. You can give it any name like nationalism or anything but violence is absolutely wrong. The fact is that thrashing somebody due to a dispute or because somebody is a sloganeer is not right," she said at the screening of "Hawa Badlo" here.

"Any argument can be sorted out by talking. We can see these kind of incidents are happening often and as an actor, I think we are vulnerable. You can see what has happened to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's set. Now this one, it is quite a disturbing situation," the "Tanu Weds Manu" actress added.

"Hawa Badlo" is a short film which talks about the problems traffic police face due to air pollution. At the event, Vivek Oberoi announced to donate anti-pollution face masks for the traffic police officials.

Directed by Karmik Varma, the film features Swara, Vivek Oberoi, Kalki Koechlin, Vir Das and Govind Namdev.

On February 22, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists allegedly clashed with All India Students Association members at Ramjas College over an invite to JNU student Umar Khalid, who was charged with sedition in 2016 for allegedly shouting anti-national slogans during an event in JNU campus.
