Chennai, Feb 28 (IANS) The ruling AIADMK's former Member of Parliament K.C. Palaniswamy on Tuesday said he will file a comprehensive petition against the appointment of V.K. Sasikala as the party's General Secretary.
On Tuesday, he withdrew his public interest litigation (PIL) filed in the Madras High Court on January 28, 2017 against the appointment of Sasikala to the party's highest post.
When the case came up for hearing, the court was inclined to dismiss the case, so he withdrew the same.
"A comprehensive petition, seeking barring of Sasikala from voting and also from participating in the democratic process indirectly, will be filed in the High Court," Palaniswamy told IANS.
On Monday, citing legal provisions that bar a convict from exercising the right to vote, the former MP urged the Election Commission to disqualify Sasikala as the party's General Secretary.
According to former Chief Election Commissioner T.S. Krishnamurthy, the law has to prevent convicts from holding party posts to ensure probity in public life.
