Case registered against Agra SP candidate


Agra, Feb 25 (IANS) A case was registered on Saturday against Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Atul Garg, from Agra North assembly constituency, at the instance of the Election Commission which took suo moto cognizance of his statement in a TV sting operation.

He has been charged with trying to purchase votes.

Election Commission directed district magistrate of Agra Gaurav Dayal to initiate legal proceedings against Garg who was shown telling someone on camera that around 15,000 votes would be purchased for Rs 1 to 1.25 crore.

Garg has however denied talking with any TV journalist.

He said "it was all doctored".

Another case was registered against a Peace Party candidate Rakesh Kumar Afrom Agra Cantt assembly constituency, for intimidating voters, booth capturing and conspiracy.
