First Test: Australia lead by 201 runs at tea on Day 2

Pune, Feb 24 (IANS) Australia scored 46/2 in the second innings, taking their lead to 201 runs at tea on the second day of the first cricket Test against India at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium here on Friday.

Skipper Steven Smith (27) and Jose Handscomb (8) were at the crease when umpires called for the break.

After bowling India out for 105, openers David Warner (10) and Shaun Marsh (0) failed to provide the good start as wsarner was adjudged leg before wicket. He was dismissed in the first over by spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Incoming batsman Smith and opener Marsh failed to step up to the occasion as Marsh was also adjudged leg before wicket by Ashwin with scoreboard reading 23/2 in seven overs.

The fall of the wicket brought in Handscomb, who along with the skipper added unbeaten 23 runs for the third wicket to stabilise the innings.

For India, Ashwin scalped two wickets.

Earlier, Steve O'Keefe's brilliant bowling helped Australia bundled India out for 105 runs in the first innings.

O'Keefe wreaked havoc on the Indian camp, bagging six wickets for 35 runs.
