'Lion' to be specially screened for underprivileged kids

Mumbai, Feb 22 (IANS) Oscar nominated film "Lion", majorly shot in India and Australia, will be specially screened for underprivileged children here on Thursday.

The screening will be hosted by Pictureworks, which is distributing the film in India, for members of Google India and the children of Salaam Baalak, a non-profit organisation which provides support and care for street children and those working.

 

Avinaash Jumani, CEO, Pictureworks, said in a statement: "We are happy to be hosting the screening for a great cause that Salaam Baalak is dedicated to. This screening just a day before the release is India is special for various reasons. Looking forward to see the kids and their response to the film".

The Garth Davis directorial will hit the screens on Friday.

The drama film, starring Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman and eight-year-old Sunny Pawar, also has Google playing a crucial part. The film's narrative shows the central character Saroo taking the help of technology of Google Earth to find his way back home in India from Tasmania, Australia.
