‘Festival of Democracy’ to mark 60 years of Kerala Assembly


Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 22 (IANS) Several programmes, including speeches by leading national politicians and revamping of the Assembly museum and library, are on the anvil as part of the ongoing celebrations of 60 years of the Kerala Legislative Assembly.

Assembly Speaker, P. Sreeramakrishnan said this while announcing the commencement of the budget session of the Assembly which begins with the customary Kerala Governor P. Sathasivam's address on Thursday.

"The 4th session of the 14th Kerala Assembly will be spread over 15 days and the budget for 2016-17 will be presented by Finance Minister Thomas Issac on March 3," the Speaker said.

He said the 60 years celebration, launched in November last year, is going to be observed in all the 14 districts of the state.

"In each district various programmes are being scheduled and it includes functions to take democracy to the people by way of exhibitions, seminars and meetings to be held in schools and other places," he said.

Leading politicians, including, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, Former Union Ministers Kapil Sibal, Jairam Ramesh will be speaking on various topics.
