Noida, Feb 22 (IANS) A whopping 75 per cent of citizens who participated in a survey to assess the progress of the Swachh bharat Abhiyan believe that their municipal corporations were not engaged in the mission.
LocalCircles, an online platform that enables citizens to connect with the government and focus on significant issues, conducted the survey in which over 30,000 unique citizens participated from over 250 districts of India with 68 per cent males and 32 per cent females.
A high 75 per cent of the citizens believe that their local municipal corporation is not engaged in the Swachh Bharat Mission. Only 16 per cent said their municipal corporation was engaged in the mission while the remaining 9 per cent were unsure, LocalCircles said in a statement.
"When asked especially, if children and youth around them were living the Swachh Bharat principles in daily life, majority of 58 per cent people said 'no' with only 34 per cent said 'yes'. 8 per cent did not have an opinion. In a similar poll 15 months ago, 32 per cent people felt that children and youth were not engaged in the mission," LocalCircles said.
But there is a little hope as 87 per cent respondents in a separate survey said that they would be happy to participate in making their neighborhood and area better if the central government or local municipal bodies engages with them even now.
