Australian golfer Rumford to compete at Hero Indian Open

New Delhi, Feb 20 (IANS) Australian golfer Brett Rumford, who completed a remarkable return from injury and loss of form over the last two seasons with a brilliant win at the ISPS Handa World Super Sixes tournament in Perth on Sunday, confirmed on Monday his participation at the Hero Indian Open, to be held from March 9.

The 39-year-old Rumford, who has played in India in the past, had a tough time in 2014 when he missed 14 cuts in 26 starts and made only one Top-10. In 2015, he had a surgery to have a section of his small intestine removed after falling ill in South Africa. In 2016, he lost his European Tour card.

With his latest win he has made a huge jump in his World Rankings from 274 to 133. He is now looking forward to getting back inside the Top-100.

Rumford last won a European Tour title in 2013, when he claimed the Ballantines and Volvo China Open in successive weeks.

The Hero Indian Open 2017 will be held from March 9 to 12, 2017 with an enhanced prize purse of US $1.75 million and for the first time will be held at the challenging Gary Player layout at the DLF Golf and Country Club.

All the top Indians and World No. 25 Rafa Cabrera-Bello will be seen in action at the Hero Indian Open, a flag ship event on Asian Tour, which is now in its third year on the European Tour.
