Delhi court frames charges against IS supporter

New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS) A special NIA court here on Thursday framed charges against Mohamed Naser, accused of active involvement in the promotion of Islamic State ideology along with his accomplices in India.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court at the Patiala House complex framed the charges against the 24-year-old Tamil Nadu resident on charges of attempt to wage war and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The court fixed March 21 for presentation of the prosecution evidence against Naser.

The accused allegedly conspired, advocated, abetted, supported and recruited others to further the activities of the Islamic State.

The NIA investigators informed the court that Naser -- arrested on December 11, 2015, in Delhi while returning from Sudan -- was working in Dubai since October 2014 and got self-redicalised under the influence of online provocative content on the Islamic State.

He allegedly travelled to Sudan to join the IS in Libya or Syria in September 2015 and remained there along with several operatives of the international militant group belonging to different nationalities.

The NIA filed a charge sheet against Naser on June 3 last year.
