Amplus wins Snapdeal order for 1 MW rooftop solar project
New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS) With solar power retail tariff becoming more competitive, Amplus Energy Solutions has announced its signing of a contract worth Rs 5 crore with Snapdeal to install 1 MW rooftop solar projects at various warehouses used by the e-commerce company.

"Amplus will set up these rooftop solar plants for an investment of approx Rs 5 crore for their logistics arm, Vulcan Express, across various locations at their warehouses," a company statement here said on Wednesday.

"Gurgaon-based Snapdeal plans to reduce its CO2 emissions by 34,500 MT, or reduce consumption of 2,55,000 barrels of crude oil, which will be equivalent to planting 43,000 trees in India with this association," Amplus added.

While the central government has set a target to increase energy sourced from grid-connected solar rooftop systems to 40 gigawatt (GW) by 2022, Amplus said it plans to achieve 100 MW of solar rooftop projects in this fiscal year, with over 60 MW already achieved with this latest contract.

Solar tariffs fell to record lows last week when major players, including foreign firms, won separate contracts for building a 750 MW solar plant in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, with bids to supply power at less than Rs 3 per unit.

Solar tariffs at the retail level have come down to the range of Rs 5-6.50 per kilowatt hour (kWh).
