New Delhi, Feb 14 (IANS) Delhi Police on Tuesday said it arrested two thieves who used to snatch mobile phones to buy gifts for their girl friends and also planned to present i-phones to them on this Valentine's Day.
The police arrested Dinesh Singh and Yatin Kumar on Monday night from Chand Cinema area in East Delhi's Kalyanpuri, following a raid when they came to sell a mobile phone to a labourer.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Omvir Singh said 20 expensive mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
While Dinesh Singh, 21, is a computer operator at the Income Tax Office, Yatin Kumar was unemployed.
"On questioning, Dinesh Singh and Kumar told police that they would cover the number plates of their bikes with a paper or polythene at the time of committing offence," DCP Omvir Singh said.
"They would sell these phones to get easy money which they would spend on their girl friends. They wanted to gift new i-phones to their girl friends on Valentine's Day," Singh said.
"Dinesh Singh has technical knowledge about the mobile phones and used to format the password-protected smart phones so that the same could be sold easily" he said.
