Metro hit by power failure on second consecutive day

New Delhi, Feb 14 (IANS) A day after the Yellow Line was adversely hit, it was the turn of the Violet Line (ITO-Escorts Mujesar) of Delhi Metro on Tuesday to suffer disruptions in operation due to erratic power supply.

The train services had to be suspended partially in the morning on the stretch because of power failure at several points on the Violet Line route. The services were disrupted first at 8.11 a.m and continued till power was fully restored at 9:42 a.m.

"Train services were delayed or disrupted intermittently during this period. In all, four round trips were cancelled, one partial trip was cancelled and two round trips were delayed on this line during this period," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement.

The failure happened due to disruption of power from the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited and the Delhi Transco Limited to DMRC's RSS (Recieving Sub-Station) located at Faridabad, Sarita Vihar and Park Street, which led to the tripping of overhead electrification continually.

The DMRC had to urge the commuters to change the metros at Rajiv Chowk station instead of Mandi House to prevent overcrowding at the latter station.

On Monday, the Yellow Line of Delhi Metro -- from Samaypur Badli in Delhi to HUDA City Centre in Gurugram -- was hit by power failure affecting services along the North-South corridor.
