Dehradun, Feb 13 (IANS) Uttarakhand Police have seized Rs 80 lakh from a car on the Mussoorie Road here, an official said on Monday.
The notes, in denominations of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500, were found in an Indica car by a joint team of the flying squad of the Election Commission and the state police.
The currency has been seized and the three persons in the car -- identified as Sudhanshu Bharadwaj, Rajendra Singh and Satyendra Singh Negi -- have been placed under arrest. The accused were being interrogated as they were unable to explain the ownership of the huge amount of money.
Poll panel officials seized the money, which was ostensibly going to be used in the state assembly elections, polling for which is to be held on Wednesday.
The Income Tax department has been informed of the seizure, an official told IANS.
