Nairobi, Feb 11 (IANS) World marathon record holder Dennis Kimetto of Kenya has not ruled out attempting to improve his best mark when he competes at the Boston marathon in April.
Kimetto, 32, has been going through a bad spell with injuries slowing his progress. However, he has been able to maintain good health in the last six months and believes it is a matter of time before he hits his best form again, reports Xinhua.
"I am doing great in training and there have been no major concerns on recurrent injuries, which gives me a lot of hope as I return to full time training in Eldoret," he said on Friday.
Whereas Kimetto is dreaming of recapturing his best form, he has ruled out contesting for a slot in the Kenya team to the World Athletics Championships in August in London.
Instead, he is keen to win as many events as possible to prove he is over his worst nightmare.
"I had my chance in Beijing in 2015 and it was too hot and humid and I had to pull out. There are many athletes in Kenya who can win anywhere and I hope they will do so in London without my help. What is critical is for me to gain my strength both in training and competition and then see what comes my way," he said.
Kimetto will be facing compatriot Wesley Korir in Boston and a horde of other top athletes. However, he has no worries about his prospects as he believes he is fast approaching his 2014 form as he begins his build-up to the Boston Marathon in April.
"Since I broke the world record in 2014 through to 2016, my legs have not been able to respond well to training and I have had a number of injuries. But for now I feel that I am truly getting back to my 2014 form again," he said.
