Former Dutch football star Keizer passes away
The Hague, Feb 11 (IANS) Former Dutch football star Piet Keizer died on Friday at the age of 73 following the effects of lung cancer, his family made it known on Saturday.

From 1961 until 1974, Keizer played a total of 490 matches for Ajax during which he scored 189 goals. With the Amsterdam-based giants, he won the European Champions Cup in 1971, 1972 and 1973, the club World Cup in 1972 and a total of six national titles, reports Efe.

The skillful and stylish left winger never played for another club.

With Sjaak Swart and the late Johan Cruyff, Keizer formed a legendary Ajax frontline. Keizer's former friend Cruyff died on March 24 last year at the age of 68, after he was diagnosed with lung cancer as well.

Keizer played a total of 34 matches for the Dutch national team. He was active in one match at the 1974 World Cup, in which the Netherlands finished second.

After his career Keizer said farewell to football and lived a quiet life, only to return as advisor and scout of Ajax in 2001.
