New Delhi, Jan 31 (IANS) FC Pune City beat Jeppiaar Institute of Technology FC 1-0 to register their first win, while Sanju scored a hat-trick in Alakhpura FC's 6-2 thumping win over Aizawl FC in the inaugural edition of the Indian Women's League (IWL) football tournament here on Tuesday.
Dalima Chhibber's 47th-minute strike proved to be the difference between Pune and Jeppiar at the Ambedkar Stadium here.
Jeppiaar were quick off the blocks and tested the FC Pune City early on through Pratima Mukhia. The match was confined to the midfield.
Both teams tried to outfox the other, but instead of succeeding, only nullified themselves. The teams went into the break 0-0. The complexion of the match changed completely after half-time.
In the 47th minute, Dalima Chhibber latched onto a Jyoti Burrett pass and smashed it home to give Pune the lead.
Jeppiaar pressed for the equaliser but failed to construct any clear goal scoring chance.
In other match of the day, Alakhpura rode on on Sanju (16th, 46th and 64th) and strikes from Kavita Devi (21st) and Deepika (36th and 85th) to sink Aizawl FC's ship with a glossy four-goal margin.
