DGCA to await P&W report on IndiGo aircraft engine fire

New Delhi, Jan 24 (IANS) The country's civil aviation regulator on Tuesday said it will await a report from aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney (P&W) before ordering a probe into an alleged incident of engine fire on one of the aircraft belonging to the budget passenger carrier IndiGo in Mumbai.

According to a senior official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the regulator will await findings from the P&W regarding the incident which took place on January 22, 2017.

"As per the advice of P&W, borescopic inspections have been carried out on the engine before failure. Matter has again been taken up with the P&W. We will await the P&W report first," the senior DGCA official said.

The official further said that "the regulator does not find any necessity of AAIB (Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau) investigation at this stage".

On Sunday, IndiGo said that its Mumbai-Delhi flight with 165 passengers and six crew onboard had a "rejected take-off" due to a "technical snag".
