Ravi Shankar tells Jallikattu supporters to stay calm

Bengaluru, Jan 23 (IANS) Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Monday urged the people of Tamil Nadu to maintain peace after a police crackdown on Jallikattu protests triggered violence.

"I appeal to the people of Tamil Nadu to keep calm and not let anti-social
elements hijack the peaceful nature of the Jallikattu movement," the Art of Living Foundation founder said in a statement.

"The six-day peaceful Jallikattu protest is a victory for people of Tamil Nadu. Instead of celebration, it is unfortunate it has taken a violent turn," he added.

"I appeal to the government to take care of women and children who have been a part of the protest and be sensitive to them. Youth should go back and resume their studies," he added.

"What has happened today is the deed of anti-social elements who want to keep the temper high for vested motives," said Ravi Shankar, who himself hails from Tamil Nadu.
