Delhi gets respite from cold, mercury to rise further
New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) Even as the minimum and maximum temperatures dipped a little as compared to Thursday, the national capital on Friday had a respite from the biting chill -- thanks to a bright sun.

The weather office predicted a pleasant Saturday morning, with rise in the maximum and minimum temperatures, putting an end to the cold wave-like situation that prevailed in Delhi and adjoining areas over the last week.

"Saturday will be a bit warmer, with maximum temperature likely to hover around 21 degrees and minimum at 8 degrees Celsius," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The icy Himalayan winds from north-western regions blew at 10 kmph on Friday, leading to slight drop in temperature and also diluting the pollutant matter, which improved the air quality of Delhi.

The air quality index for Delhi at 302 index value was labelled "very poor" on Thursday, which, however, improved with Friday winds to 229 index value, labelled "poor".

According to the Met Office, the maximum and minimum temperatures on Friday settled at 20.8 and 6.0 degrees Celsius, while on Thursday the maximum and minimum temperatures were at 21.3 and 6.4 degrees Celsius -- over two degrees up from Wednesday.

On Saturday, the sky would remain partly cloudy, with shallow fog at some places, IMD said.

The fog density would increase further on Sunday, though the cloud formation would increase the maximum and minimum temperatures to 23 and 10 degrees Celsius, respectively, by trapping the heat, an official said.
